Before beginning the oocyte (egg) freeze, the embryologist prepares a dish with several drops of vitrification media for each egg to be frozen. Next, the patient’s paperwork and samples are verified for accuracy, at which point the prepared eggs are removed from the incubator and transferred to the prepared dish. After placing any remaining eggs back in the incubator, the embryologist moves the eggs through the various drops of vitrification media in a carefully timed process. The eggs are then loaded onto a storage device and plunged into liquid nitrogen to complete the vitrification process.
